| Major reshuffle in administration, police on cards after LS poll results | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 12: A major reshuffle in the state administration and police is on the cards after announcement of the Lok Sabha poll results on May 16. The reshuffle would be effected by Omar Abdullah led coalition Government any day soon after the results come out. Reliable sources said that even as the reshuffle in higher echelons of administration as also among middle rung bureaucrats has become an overdue exercise for the Government, both the allies NC and Congress are keen to do so withe eyes on Assembly elections. Sources said though a minor reshuffle was effected by the Government ahead of LS polls with a purported motive that this move would help them fetch some electoral gains in one way or the other, it did not help the allies in a big way as they had envisaged. The mood of electorate and strong anti incumbency wave posed impediments despite '(mis)use' of official machinery to woo the electorate. Sources said the Government is not happy nor impressed for some high ranking officials on whom it had pinned high hopes for their 'role' in elections which is why it wants them to get replaced and substituted by other lot who have all though shown allegiance to leaders of both the allies. Sources said the reshuffle has also become over due on account of the fact that in absence of Government functioning at all levels after MCC was put in place, there has been little or no efforts on part of the administration to make any headway in many key aspects of the functioning that lay completely unattended due to highly pre occupied phase of entire Cabinet including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. No work was seen done in any department nor was there any movement forward on any development project during the last two months, sources said adding that the complacency of administration has been noted with seriousness by the political bosses. However, the reshuffle both in the administration and Police department is also seen as an imperative move that is aimed to facilitate political preparedness in run up to Assembly elections in the state. As reshuffle is on cards and Government eager to effect it promptly, it is the fresh round of differences and bickering between the NC and Congress which may mar smooth decision taking and even delay it, sources further said adding that much depends on the outcome of the results on LS seats in the state which can determine course of action on this front. The Government will anyway hasten action keeping in mind Assembly polls and the officers so posted or transferred would continue on same postings till formation of new Government, sources said. |
