Leadership's wisdom would be judged before Assembly polls
Hectic lobbying in BJP for Assembly mandate
5/12/2014 11:06:55 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 12: Even before counting of the Parliament elections, hectic lobbying in BJP has already been started to get mandate for the coming Assembly elections.
During the campaign of Lok Sabha elections, a number of BJP leaders have projected themselves as candidates of their respective Assembly segments. And BJP candidates for both the Parliament seats had not opposed those who were projecting themselves as Assembly elections because at that time their target was their own elections.
But, now when Parliament elections have almost completed these leaders have been exerting pressure on their mentors to get their names announced for Assembly polls. BJP leadership would have to face difficult task to select candidates for Assembly elections because in some segments more than two candidates are staking their claims on one seat.
Situation is very piquant in Kathua, Udhampur and Doda districts where a number of BJP leaders are staking claims on Assembly elections.
On Billawar Assembly segments Narayan Dutt, who recently joined BJP and Satish Sharma are staking claims for Assembly mandate. Similarly on Kathua segments there are four candidates who worked hard during the election of Dr Jatendra Singh and have been staking claim on Assembly seat.
On prestigious Udhampur seat, Pawan Gupta and Pawan Khajuria are claimants for this segment because both of them have worked hard for party in Lok Sabha elections. In Basholi seat number of claimants of party mandate is three.
In Kishtwar seat where Sunil Sharma was party candidate in 2008 Assembly elections, there are two other senior leaders who are staking claims in lieu of their hard work during Lok Sabha elections.
In Gandhi Nagar Assembly segment nearly half a dozen leaders are staking their claims for party mandate despite the fact that none of them have done ground work.
Sources in the BJP said that real test before the party leadership would be in the Assembly elections because Parliament polls were held purely on Modi Wave but Assembly elections would judge performance of those who are claiming themselves as mass leaders.
