POONCH, May 12 : Following the firing incidents on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kamir, the residents living along it are living in fear, risking their lives, homes and cattle. Army and the local residents on Sunday claimed that Pakistani troops opened fire over the weekend in Salotri Jhalas after the Army had killed two suspected militants along the LoC. Villagers say that the ceasefire violation happens every time. "It happens every time, and it has made our life hell.
We fear for our homes, kids and cattle," a Villager says. "Pakistan is not at peace and does not let us remain at peace. So, we are ready to face it, even leaving our property aside," he adds. Altaf Hussain, a villager said that the firing began at 10 pm on Saturday night and ended after 2 am on Sunday. "We all were hiding inside our houses. Even army responded after two to four minutes," Free Press Journal reported, quoting Mansu Khan, a resident.
According to Army, Pakistan has resorted to firing thrice this month. Army claimed to have seized two AK-47 rifles, 240 rounds of ammunition, eight AK-47 magazines, a grenade launcher, three grenades, a claymore mine and two detonators some days back when two suspected militants were killed. |
