| 3 held with 17-kg Nagchatrri in Doda | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 12: Continuing drive against the drug menaces, timber smuggling and illicit sale of forest produce the Doda police today arrested three persons for allegedly smuggling Nagchatri (forest produce) during a raid conducted in a local hotel in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to police spokesperson following a specific information, a police team conducted checking of a local hotel - 'City Saraj' and recovered 17-kg of Forest produce (Nagchatrri) from three persons lodging in the said Hotel. "The trio has been identified namely as Pardeep Kumar s/o Subash Chander of 114 Katra Safaid Amritsar, Deepak Arora s/o Brij Lal Arora of No 1502 Namak Mandi Amritsar and Raman Puri s/o Hira Lal Puri of Beri Gate Amritsar, police said. Police spokesperson said that the arrested persons in the disguise of garment suppliers (hawkers) were found involved in illegal sale of this forest produce in the town for illicit gains. "In this connection a case FIR No. 80/2014 U/S 379 RPC, 6 Forest Act stands registered, he said. Pertinently the said forest produce Nagchatri is in great demand in pharmaceutical sector and thus people are indulged in smuggling it outside the state despite a ban imposed under Forest Act on the sale of Trilleien Govartaion popularly known as Nagchatri. The roots of this forest produce is the most important part as it is a source of the steroid 'harmone' and thus has greater demand in pharmaceutical preparations for rheumatism, birth control and regulation of menstrual flow. |
