Srinagar, May 12 : A varsity in Jammu and Kashmir has not only reinstated but also promoted an engineer despite being on leave for five years, a news agency reported on Monday. The report said Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) has reinstated and promoted a 'green card' holder after a study leave of five years. A delegation from SKUAST Shalimar Srinagar told the news agency that Executive Engineer Vikas Shair, who is a green card holder, went on a study leave and surprisingly after returning from abroad he was not only reinstated but promoted from Assistant Executive Engineer to Executive Engineer. "After the expiry of his study leave, the University issued couple of public notices, informing him that he will be sacked in case he did not join the University. He did not bother to reply to the reminders given to him by the University and did not join in time, but we all were shocked that after returning from abroad after five years, he was instantly reinstated and promoted," one of the members of the delegation said. The members added that the Vice Chancellor showered undue favours upon Vikas and instead of showing him door elevated him. The delegation alleged that VC and Vikas Shair struck a deal under which the former motivated him to purchase all the material from his relative in Himachal Pradesh who owns a furniture factory there. "It was a give and take. VC reinstated and promoted Vikas after he agreed to make all the deals with the relative of the present VC," the delegation said. Refuting these allegations, the VC, Dr Tej Pratap said Vikas joined in time and his promotion was due. "Yes, I made an inquiry to this matter. The file was lying with me but Vikas joined in time and we had no reason to suspend him," he said, adding that whatever purchases are being made for University are made through a proper committee. "Why should I tell Vikas to make purchases from my relative," he said. Vikas told the news agency that he could not join the University in time because he was on a study leave. "I was waiting for the degree to get completed and once it was completed, I joined SKUAST without any delay," he said, adding: to be a green card holder is not a crime. |
