| NMC demands provision for 20% interim relief for employees, pensioners | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 7: President National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) Subash Shastri today urged upon the Union Finance Minister to keep provision for 20% interim relief for Central/State governments employees and pensioners in the current financial year budget is likely to be being presented in the Lok Sabha. In a memorandum sent to Arun Jaitly, Shastri said that since the DA has crossed 100 per cent marks, there is no justification for withholding the merger of 50% DA with basic pay / pension as such it should be done immediately and announcement in this regard be made in the forthcoming session of parliament session itself. Moreover the slab of income tax has not been raised and has become burden on the salaried class in view of the high inflation and price rise trend it is there for demanded that the slab level be raised to Rs 5 lakhs in view of steep rise In prices of essential commodities adding that raising income tax exemption limit to rupees 5 lakhs would be genuine measure to provide some relief to them. Shastri also seeking total exemption of Dearness Allowance(DA) from the ambit of income tax as DA directly linked with the price index said and adding that the income tax is also imposed on the increase of the salaries class because of DA. NMC chief also asked Union Finance Minister Arun Jatley to reconsider the practice. |
