| Jitendra Singh’s reception turns into rebellious welcome | | Udhampur turns into warring zone between two Assembly ticket contenders | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, June 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent rider for Parliamentarians to observe austerity measures in executing their responsibilities received first backlash in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur segment when the MoS in Modi's Cabinet Jitendra Singh was received to a revolting welcome by the warring groups in the divided house of state BJP. The simmering scenario took a ugly turn when supporters of two BJP leaders in Udhampur viz Pawan Khajuria and Pawan Gupta , in order to list their individual preferences in front of high-statured Jitendra Singh who had arrived in Udhampur to address the general public indulged into rubbing of shoulders and using offensive practice to earn Jitendra Singh's attention on the occasion. This led to a situation of pandemonium on the scene that left the entire exercise in jeopardy notwithstanding that 'son of soil' had come to home to meet his people after having become a Minister in PM's Cabinet. It is an understood fact now that state BJP since the rolling in of Lok Sabha elections have shown up a disgusting widening of cleavage in the party with groupism apparently taking its toll, it was Narendra Modi's elan only that has fetched them three LS seats, which otherwise as per their personnel curriculum vitae, none deserved the elevation to such heightened pedestals. Taking the same cue, state BJP, which obviously had been tagged with many criminalities from a party of cross-voters to being a dysfunctional unit in the state, the Assembly ticket seekers too have started showing up their hunger for 'platter victories' chasing the Modi wave which have sent them berserk. As today was the first visit of Jitendra Singh to Jammu region after becoming Minister, clashes were looking imminent because very leader was trying to take political mileage. Instead of inculcating disciplined in the party cadre, BJP leadership, which was desperate to win Lok Sabha seats at any cost, encouraged all such leaders. Supporters of two strong leaders of Udhampur namely Pawan Gupta and Pawan Khajuria clashed in front of Jitendra Singh and other senior leaders. Both the leaders have strong claims on mandate of Udhampur Assembly segment. A senior BJP leader, who pleaded anonymity, told such clashes may take place in other areas also because in most of the constituencies party leadership has projected a number of candidates. Such things are going to happen in Kathua, Billawar, Basholi, Chenani, Reasi, RS Pura, Bishnah, Raipur-Domana, Jammu-East, Jammu West, Nowshera, Gandhi Nagar, Bhaderwah and a couple of other constituencies where party leaders have proposed names of many leaders for Assembly elections. As reported earlier by the Early Times, during the campaign of Lok Sabha elections, a number of BJP leaders had projected themselves as candidates of their respective Assembly segments. And BJP candidates for both the Parliament seats had not opposed those who were projecting themselves as Assembly elections because at that time their target was their own elections. BJP leadership would have to face difficult task to select candidates for Assembly elections because in some segments more than two candidates are staking their claims on one seat. Situation is very piquant in Kathua, Udhampur and Doda districts where a number of BJP leaders are staking claims on Assembly elections. On Billawar Assembly segments Narayan Dutt, who recently joined BJP and Satish Sharma are staking claims for Assembly mandate. Similarly on Kathua segments there are four candidates who worked hard during the election of Jitendra Singh and have been staking claim on Assembly seat. On prestigious Udhampur seat, Pawan Gupta and Pawan Khajuria are claimants for this segment because both of them have worked hard for party in Lok Sabha elections. In Basholi seat number of claimants of party mandate is three. In Gandhi Nagar Assembly segment nearly half a dozen leaders are staking their claims for party mandate despite the fact that none of them have done ground work. |
