| Labourer beaten up, SHO refuses FIR | | Another instance of police brutality | | MS Nazki Jammu, June 7: In yet another instance of police brutality, a labourer youth was beaten up by Dy.SP of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP) inside a locked room when the labourer had gone to repair a leaked pipe inside a police infrastructure. According to sources, the labourer youth namely Vikram Sharma, resident of Ari, a plumber by profession was directed by a local contractor namely Tazeem to repair a leaking pipe at JKAP 6th Battalion in Dhera, Mendhar. On the direction of the contractor, the labourer went there in early hours of the day. The moment he started work, he was attacked and was taken into a locked room by two PSOs where he was thrashed by Chib allegedly for not attending his job the previous day. The victim told this journo that he was having Rs. 7000 and a mobile phone in his possession which was looted by the PSOs and the police officer. Later, the victim somehow managed to escape from the area and reached Sub District Hospital Mendhar where he was admitted after diagnosing his condition deteriorating. Contractor Tazeem, after being contacted, also reached the hospital with the family of the victim and contacted the same DySP telephonically, who threatened to shoot all the complainant on the spot if the matter was highlighted further. Following the threat, Sarpanch of the village Sita Ram Sharma along with a village deputation called on SHO Kuldeep Raj Sharma to register a case against the said DySP but the deputation was denied their basic right. A written complaint has been lodged with Munsif Court Mendhar and SDM Mendhar has assured action against the police officer if charges against him will be proved. Meanwhile, SDPO, Mendhar, Surinder Choudhary has assured action when he was contacted telephonically by this journo. |
