Court denies bail in mentally retarded girl's rape case

JAMMU, June 7: Presiding Officer of fast track court Sanjeev Gupta rejected the bail application of one Sohan Singh who was facing trial in rape with a mentally retarded girl.
According to the police case, President J&K Handicapped Welfare Association Akhnoor has given a written complaint to police station Akhnoor in which they have said that some unknown youths raped mentally retarded girl and now she is pregnant. On this complaint, police registered a case and after completion of investigation presented challan in the Court.
After hearing Additional Public Prosecutor who resisted the bail application on the ground that the petitioner has committed a heinous offence by raping a mentally retarded girl which offence is against the society at large and carries punishment up to life imprisonment, Sanjeev Gupta Presiding Officer Fast Track court observed that the societal concern has to be kept in view in juxtaposition of individual liberty.
