Early Times Report

Jammu, June 7: The Centre is likely to give priority to package for the settlement of refugees settled in the Jammu. The Home Ministry is in consultation with the other ministries concerned to give final shape to the package.
According to the sources, the NDA government has decided to prioritize the issue of refugees as is pending for the last about 60-year needs immediate concern.
The sources said the BJP which had always taken the issues of the Jammu as one of the important features of its political ideology had decided that the issue of refugees can't be allowed to linger on for anymore.
"It's an important issue for the BJP. Even during Vajpayee's time it could not be settled. The problem then was NC was in coalition. But now we have majority on our own and it has to be settled ," said a senior BJP leader, wishing not to be named.
The other reason for the BJP to go for settlement of the issue is that part of its ideology as people settled in Jammu and Kashmir even if there are from Pakistan, can't be treated separately as party considers J&K as an integral part of the country.
Another reason being that refugees have a sizeable vote bank which has looked at the BJP for its issue In the recent elections.
The party also wants to nurture this constituency as it's looking for maximum seats from the Jammu region as part of its aim to get 44 seats.
The sources said it being in the power can ask or rather direct the state government to make necessary arrangements in this regard.
"If the state government, reads NC, doesn't act then the party can it a national issue on the ground that even residents who are natural residents of the State are not given rights there. It can then trigger a national debate on abrogation of Art 370 which wouldn't be in the interest of the Kashmir based parties," said a senior BJP leader.
