Jammu, June 19: Over a hundred fake ration cards found in R S Pura have brought to the fore the menace that has been siphoning off PDS ration for legitimate ration card holders.
The alleged scam was unearthed when residents of three border villages in R.S Pura including Dablard, SlamaChack, and Rathana met with the Director CAPD and expressed anguish over shortage of ration being provided to them.
On scrutiny of the ration cards, many were found to be fake , besides, most of the slips in the ration cards already went missing which indicated large scale embezzlement in the rationing. The ration cards were accordingly seized for scrutiny.
Based on the complaint, Director CAPD Jammu, G.S Chib ordered probe into the alleged scam. When contacted, he said that joint director CAPD Manmohan Singh has been directed to hold a probe and a team has been constituted to visit the areas and make access of the ration depots; besides district administration has been apprised over the alleged bungling. CAPD officer maintained that in order to identify and cancel fake ration cards, the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) record is being computerized in Jammu and Kashmir. Officer said that Secretary, CAPD Baseer Khan chaired a meeting of officers of CAPD, NIC and IT Departments to review the status of end-to-end computerization of the CA&PD Department in Srinagar, two months back and process is in progress as first phase which including digitization of data of Fair Price Shops and godowns has been completed. "The digitized data should be provided to all for verification and the entire exercise must be completed within one month", he maintained.
