| Cong-NC Coordination Committee in limbo | | NC deliberately diluting its existence, feels Congress | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 19: Even as after their washout in the Lok Sabha election, the ruling National Conference-Congress coalition in Jammu and Kashmir has announced certain measures in order to refurbish its sagging image in the state, cohesiveness and lack of coordination on key issues between the two alliance partners is marring impact of such steps on the ground level. As NC is unilaterally announcing measures and decisions on key issues, Congress is ruing over the fact that NC has pushed to wall and has undermined the importance of the Coordination Committee which was set up to resolve matters where the two partners faced differences. Sources said with NC led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah lately seen announcing the decisions taken in the Cabinet either much ahead of formal approval or by not taking Congress on board while going to public with such decisions has annoyed the Congress leadership in the state. Though PCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has taken exceptions in recent past to the unilateral announcements by Chief Minister, it has made no impact on the NC which is leaving no chance in taking the credit prior to Congress. While Congress Ministers have been caught unawares over many such matters post election results, this has prompted the Congress leadership to come out with parallel statements at the official level in matters like raising of retirement age of employees and benefits given to thousands of ReT teachers the decisions about which were taken in the Cabinet yet CM went to public with loud announcements. Sources also said with both the partners going in different directions over almost all matters of governance even on day to day basis, Congress is particularly perturbed over the fact that NC has deliberately pushed Coordination Committee in a state of limbo in order to have upper hand over the key political issues with elections on mind. Though Congress is said to be having taken initiatives on certain matters much ahead of NC but when it came to making announcements NC has pushed it aside with complete disregard to what Congress stand was over such matters. Sources say there are some matters still pending before the Government where NC is hesitant and reluctant while Congress wants them to get expedited and settled ahead of elections. Congress has already expressed willingness to sort out differences over such matters through the highest forum of Coordination Committee but NC has not given any heed to it, apparently having no regard to existence of the Committee. Sources said most of the Ministers in Congress are asking the PCC chief Prof Soz who happens to be the chairman of the panel to convene the meeting without delay with some important issues on agenda which will bring to fore what NC contends and how the party wants to settle such matters. While the Coordination Committee meeting has not been held for a long time now, Congress is also disappointed the manner NC has not honoured in full spirit nor implemented in toto certain decisions which the party Ministers agreed in principal during past meetings. |
