J&K Police felicitates kayak for winning Sher-i-Kashmir award

Srinagar, June 19, Jammu and Kashmir Police today felicitated one of its constables for being part of the 20 sportspersons who were awarded the prestigious Sher-i-Kashmir sports award.
AdilMohi-ud-Din, an international player in canoeing and kayaking who hails from Dalgate area of Srinagar, has been awarded the prestigious state award for his outstanding proficiency and performance in water sports during the past few years.
A constable of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police, he along with 19 other sportspersons received the award from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in an investiture ceremony held at SKICC here.
Adil has the honour of being the first person from the state to represent India in the Olympic qualifying round held at Tehran, Iran in October 2011.
He was adjudged fourth in C-4 (1000m) and sixth in C-1 event held during the qualifiers and also got seventh place in International Regatta Canoe Sprint Competition held in Uzbekistan in 2012.
The 24-year-old kayak made his debut in National water sports in 2007 where he bagged two bronze medals. He bagged gold in National Dragon Boat Racing championship held at Bhopal in 2010, two silver medals in and two bronze medals in 34th Asian Kayaking and canoeing Championship, National Kayaking and Canoeing championship held in Bangalore and National Games in 2011 at Jharkhand. Congratulating Adil, Additional Director General of Police S M Sahi appreciated the athlete for bringing laurels to the state in general and police in particular.
"Police has always pledged to promote sports culture in the state and worked to bring forth the best sports talent of the state," Sahai said.
