| Development works stalled as NC fails to recover from Shock | | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, June 22: It seems that National Conference led government is so shell shocked that it has forgotten about the developmental programmes of the state. The government seems to be in slumber as the people in the corridors of power are apprehensive about the defeat in the upcoming assembly elections. It is worth mentioning and surprising as well that the month of June is about to be followed by July but the macdamization of the roads in Kashmir valley hasn't started. Even the vital roads of the valley, including the ones of the Srinagar city, have failed to draw the attention of the authorities. "The people at the helm of affairs claim tall that they have left no stone unturned and have brought the state out of the darkness which is not a practical reality. Their claims are nothing but an act of rubbing salt on the wounds," said some people at Shalteng Srinagar, while talking to Early Times. These people went on saying that the condition of the roads was never good here and the incessant rains and snowfalls during the spring season have turned these life lines into the nightmares for the people, as the people have suffered in terms of health and wealth on account of the poor road connectivity. It is pertinent to mention here that the Kashmir valley experiences low temperature for the most part of the year. The temperature required for the macdamization lasts only for a few weaks, from the month of June. When is the government going to start the process of macdamization of the roads when one quarter of the hot season is already over. "Kashmir valley is the place which should be prioritized as far as the developmental works are concerned because the time for the completion of these works in the valley is limited given the climatic conditions which are hostile for the most part of the year," said a contractor namely Shabir Ahmad while sharing his ideas with the Early Times. Shabir was of the opinion that the idea of the macdamization of the roads strikes the minds of the people in power only when the night temperature is sub zero. Such acts of the government, as Shabir says, create problems for the people instead of solving them because this untimely macdamization doesn't long for more than a weak. The roads of Goripora Sanatnagar and Soibugh area of Budgam district are the living examples of the official apathy as far as the untimely macdamization of the roads is concerned. These roads were macadamized in the month of November which is the beginning of winter season. The residents of these two areas while talking to Early Times said "Have the senses fled from the people who are at the helm of the affairs? The developmental programmes must be managed wisely and properly by the government. The government must learn how to act according to the time and situation,". |
