| Cong likely to snap ties with NC | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 22: As the Congress party is preparing to announce list of probable candidates for upcoming Assembly elections, it is likely to snap its ties with National Conference. There will be no pre-poll alliance of Congress party with the National Conference as grass root leaders of both the parties are against this thought. Sources in Congress party said that party workers and leaders are of the opinion that going for pre-poll alliance with National Conference (NC) will prove disastrous for the party and it is in the better interest to go in polls alone. "But there is an opinion in the leadership of the party in the state that they could facilitate friendly contest with NC leaders at few places where NC candidates might be having chance to win both in Kashmir valley and in Jammu region," sources added. After the rout in Lok Sabha elections when all six seats were lost by the alliance candidates, voice of going alone for Assembly elections was gathering momentum both in Congress party and in NC. Leaders of both these parties are well aware of the fact that their existence is at the stake after the worst ever performance in the Lok Sabha elections and it is in the better interest of both the parties to part ways. "Leaders of parties in Jammu and Kashmir have agreed to separate and work to boost the morale of party workers at grass root level. They are aware of the fact that Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) might be trying to cash in the ground which they have made during Lok Sabha elections and thus it is important to hit them hard whatever way they can," sources added. |
