Early Times Report Jammu, June 22: Picking holes in recent government declaration granting backward area status to 39 villages, National Secular Forum (NSF) today said that several deserving villages were neglect by the government. Addressing media persons, National Secular Forum University Unit President Qayoom Malik, said that out of 39 villages declared backward several of them has road connectivity besides other facilities. "Across the state a large number of villages which have no road connectivity and lack other facilities are still deprived of the benefits", Malik said. Qayoom Malik, further said that it seemed that pick and choose policy was adopted by government in which several villages belong to coalition candidates has been given status. "I wonder why these ministers and legislators are so enthusiastic over granted backward status to their forward villages", Malik said and adding that these ministers and legislators should instead make efforts to grant forward status to a backward villages. Qayoom Malik, appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to direct the backward area commission to do survey of remaining, deserving villages and submit their report to Chief Minister shortly, and enshrined them backward areas status.
