| Seelu shootout: Dentist succumbs, Police cracks plot | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
BARAMULLA, June 22: A dentist who was injured in an attack in North Kashmir's Seelu Sopore town of district Baramullaon Friday evening succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning at (SKIMS) Srinagar. According to police, at about 9 pm on Friday night, three masked gunmen barged inside the house of Khazir Mohammad Naikoo at Seel Sopore and fired indiscriminately on the family members of Naikoo killing Nazir Ahmad and critically injuring his nephew Shabir Ahmad Naikoo. Shabir received four shots.The injured dentist was immediately shifted to sub-district hospital Sopore in critical condition were from he was shifted to Sher Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Soura Srinagar, where Shabir succumbed to his injuries on Sundaymorning, the official said. "Shabir Ahmad was running his clinic at Singhpora Pattan for last couple of years," Khazir's son Nazir Ahmad Naikoo was killed on the spot while Shabir Ahmad was critically injured when gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at them on Fridayevening" Shabir's uncle Khazir said. Soon after the incident, the house owner Khazir Mohammad Congress activist disclosed that during the intervening night of June 20-21, he identified one of the three attackers as Mehraj Ud-Din Khan alias Raja Khan S/O Sardar Mohammad Khan R/O Khan Mohalla Mundji Zaingeer Sopore who was their relative and with whom their family has a land dispute. Jammu and Kashmir Police swung into action and apprehended Raja Khan from his house. Early Times has learnt from official sources that, during preliminary investigation Raja revealed that a bitter land dispute was going on between the two families and previously a case FIR NO: 169/2011 under section 307, 148 RPC was also registered in police station Sopore against him and his brothers which is still sub judice in Baramulla court. During questioning he confessed his involvement in the attack, in the process of investigations it surfaced that the accused had used the services of militants to settle the dispute with Naikoos. They approached one local militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit Javid Ahmad Matoo of Sopore town for active participation of militants in the attack murdered Nazir Ahmad and Shabir Ahmad Naikoo. It is also important to mention here that HM terrorist Javid Ahmad Matoo is wanted in many terrorist activities and the investigation of the case is going on, police official said. Meanwhile Deputy Inspector General of Police North Kashmir, Ghulam Hassan Bhat had said that a Pakistani and as well as a local militants were involved in the attack by the family of Mehraj-ud-Din Khan alias Raja Khan of Mundgi in Sopore. |
