JAMMU, July 19: Kashmiri leaders, both separatist and "mainstream", are up in arms against New Delhi and Israel. They are dismissing both India and Israel as "oppressors" and urging the international bodies to intervene and help the Kashmiris and Palestinians achieve what they want. On the other hand, they are not raising even their little finger against what the dreaded ISIS is doing in Iraq to the majority Shiite community, the Indians working there and others to establish in Iraq and Syria a particular type of radical Sunni-dominated dispensation. The ISIS has unleashed a reign of senseless brutalities in Iraq on the Arab Shiites, vandalized their religious places, butchered hundreds of Shiite Muslims, including women and children and Iraqi soldiers, and the process to eliminate the Shiite community is on. But not a single Kashmiri Sunni leader has till date organized any demonstration against the ISIS or issued any statement against what has been happening in Iraq for weeks now. Their whole campaign is ill-motivated. Kashmiri leaders of all hues have joined hands not only against Israel but also against India, despite the fact that New Delhi has expressed concern over what has been happening in Middle East. The Geelani, the Mirwaizs and the Maliks all are on the same page. Malik has even gone to the extent of asking the people of Kashmir to take lessons from the prevailing situation in Palestine and refrain from selling their to land to India, its forces and army. "Palestinians in 1940s sold their land to Israelis without knowing its consequences. This is also one of the main reasons for the bad situation they are in today. Kashmiris should also take a lesson from this. We are also selling our land to the Indian state, its forces and army and if we don't stop this practice, our situation may also become worse than that of Palestinians," Malik said on Friday while addressing a rally at Beehama Chowk in Ganderbal district, Kashmir. "The ordeal that Palestinians are going through today may be a 'consequence of criminal attitude, negligence and silence of the international community'. Taking out rallies against Israeli aggression is good but people who are protesting should also remember Kashmir as we have and are also suffering from same kind of oppression," he also said. Not only this, Yasin also said: The "criminal negligence and silence of international community on issues like Jammu & Kashmir and Palestine is making this world a worst place to live in. This criminal attitude will bring disaster to the entire world. Kashmir issue is a living reality and anyone who denies this is actually living in a fool's paradise. It is the responsibility of the international community to find ways and means for resolving issues like Kashmir and Palestine to ensure international peace and harmony". He didn't utter a single word against the ISIS. Nor did he expressed solidarity with the suffering Shiites in Iraq. The same day, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led an anti-Israel rally in downtown Srinagar and said that Palestine and Kashmir are the "victims of suppression and both the disputes should be solved as per the aspirations of its people". "Both the Kashmir and Palestinian issues are present on UN agenda from past many decades and till these issues are not solved in accordance with the wishes of its people, peace economic prosperity and stability would not return to South Asia and Middle East," Mirwaiz said while addressing Friday congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid. "Israel must be forced by international community to end genocide of Palestinians and allow people in Gaza to return to their homes. Like apartheid in South Africa, the world community must show international solidarity with Palestinians and impose sanctions and economic boycott on Israel," he also said. He, like Yasin, also uttered no word on what had been happening in Iraq. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, like Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz, also said the same. Two days ago, the NC cadres had also organized anti-Israel rally in Srinagar. It's time for the authorities to act and act fast to send a message to all concerned that no one will be allowed to misuse the right to free-speech and the Jammu & Kashmir territories belong to the Indian nation and not to the likes of Yasin Malik. True, that the BJP-led NDA Government at the centre has refused discussion in the Parliament on the Palestinian issue on the ground that New Delhi has good relations both with Israel and Palestinians. But it is just not enough. It has also to take tough stand on what the likes of Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz have been doing in Kashmir under the nose of law and order authorities. |
