| 'Yes to telecom coys selling SIMs, no to NGO disseminating knowledge' | | Principal GCW Gandhi prefers whims to norms | | K Koushal Jammu, July 19: Throwing norms and propriety to wind, Principal Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Dr Kiran Bakshi has shocked everyone by denying an opportunity to make students aware of various centrally sponsored education schemes while private telecom companies were allowed to sell new connections in the campus. The astounding move of the college Principal is an attempt to avenge for an old rivalry with the office bearer of the NGO who in the past had got a stay order from the Court for a book shop within the college which the then Principal had allotted to a non-existing firm. Head of the NGO further said that Principal just for her personal rivalry was trying to scuttle attempts of spreading knowledge of centrally sponsored education schemes and is trying to deprive the students an opportunity to make full use of such schemes. Pertinently, controversy was evoked on September 24, last year when salesman of a private telecom company was permitted to sell SIM cards among the college students by installing a canopy in the College premises. Denying the allegations of the NGO, Principal GCW Gandhi Nagar, Dr Kiran Bakshi when contacted by Early Times said, I only said the NGO representatives to submit their proposal and had not denied them the permission. She further said "at the time of selling SIM cards, I was informed telephonically about the canopy by the acting principal (Prof. Sudha Gupta) and she only permitted the telecom company in my absence as I was out of the state that time and I cancelled their permission as soon as I came to know about it," she added. |
