| Bhaderwah, July 19: There are a few noble professions in this world. Practicing medicine is one of them. And being a medico is perhaps the noblest but to get a BDS or MBBS seat is not a child's play. It needs a lot of preparation to get through the competitive exam. And, for passing the competitive exam, one nowadays needs a lot of coaching in private institutes which demand a lot of money. If you don't have money, you need to put extra hard work to come in the competition of those who are trained well by the coaching institutes. However, for talented Suman of district Doda, whose father is an autorickshaw driver, her humble background didn't pose a hurdle in any way. The girl, who prepared on her own, qualify this year's prestigious J&K Combined Entrance Test (JKCET) medical exam conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Exam (JKBOPEE-2014). Suman Devi, daughter of Mukhtyar Singh and Sarishta Devi of remote village Mandol of Doda district, studied in the government schools from the beginning up to 12th standard and qualified for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC), Jammu. Suman, says that she aspired to become a doctor since her childhood. Though she studied in three government schools, she passed with flying colours with 73 % and 85 % marks respectively in 10th and 12th class Board exams. Suman, whose father is an autorickshaw driver and mother, a housewife says, her parents helped her in whatever way they could and gave her freedom of choosing the career of her choice. Her father Mukhtyar Singh, who drives the autorickshaw of a Jammu-based Businessman said, "Whatever we had, we did it for her (Suman) and we are happy that she has qualified JKCET." Suman said, "Becoming a doctor is her ultimate aim. I have taken admission in BDS but I will try again next year for MBBS and stick to my profession (Doctor), only and would not aspire for civil services or other exams." |
