| Sweepers take hostage of Kichloo's residence, raise protest | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, July 19: Demanding regularization of their services, the agitating sweepers of Municipal Committee Kishtwar today staged protest outside the residence of Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, who is also holding the charge of Housing and Urban Development Minister. The protesters were demanding immediate address of all the demands raised by the sweepers working in 37 Municipal Committees of the state since last over 20 years. The agitating sweepers who later held talks with the minister at his residence were led by their President Nazir Ahmed. The sweepers demanded immediate regularization of services of daily wagers, casual labors, need basis and consolidated workers, additional pay of 2 & ½ day, sanction of uniform, shoes, glucose, mask, soaps, medical leave and importantly 6th pay arrear. They said that many sweepers working in the department were at the verge of attaining retirement age and added that they are eagerly waiting for regularization of their services before attaining retirement age. They also demanded creation of more posts of sweepers in every Municipal Committees of the state and said that successive governments have failed to address their genuine demands. While talking to the agitating sweepers, MoS HUDD Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo informed them that state cabinet has already taken the decision with regard to regularization of the services of daily wagers including those working in Municipal Committees. He assured the agitating sweepers that their genuine demands including regularization of their services will be address in next few weeks and probably before the Eid festival. Meanwhile Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth President Kishtwar Mohammad Umar Malik today extended its support to agitating sweepers and joined the protest. Umar Malik on behalf of his party assured all possible help to the agitating employees of MC Kishtwar. He termed the demands raised by them as genuine and urged upon the government to address the demands immediately. |
