| J&K enhances rate for MGNREGA, approves Rs 288.20 lakh mandays | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 19 : Enhancing the rate for MGNREGA to Rs 157 per day, the Jammu and Kashmir State Employment Guarantee Council (SEGC) approved 288.20 lakh mandays as labour budget for 2014-15.Officials said the council decided that wages being paid to the unskilled workers under MGNREGA be enhanced to Rs 157 per day with effect from April 1,2014. It also decided to hike the emoluments of the supporting staff being engaged under the scheme.They said the council also approved the labour budget of the State for the 2014-15 to 288.20 lakh man-days.Meanwhile, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Ali Mohammad Sagar has directed the officers to speed up the implementation of MGNREGA, so that more and more people living in rural and far-flung areas of State get benefitted from it, besides ensuring the asset creation.The Minister was addressing officers during the fifth meeting of SEGC under MGNREGA here yesterday. Sagar impressed upon the officers to ensure that the status of implementation of MGREGA is speeded up so that people living in rural and far-flung areas of the State get benefit from it.He said the scheme has been instrumental in providing the much needed job opportunities to the people at their door steps besides the creation of infrastructural assets is also done. 'MGNREGA has been instrumental in changing the rural landscape of the State since its implementation in the State and has registered phenomenal growth in its execution since last five years and now the onus lies on the officers to ensure its further acceleration and broadening of its scope through convergence', the minister maintained. While asking for dovetailing the implementation of MGNREGA with a scheme of other departments through convergence, the minister directed the officers to prepare comprehensive Detail Project Reports (DPRs) well in time before the start of the financial year and all modalities of the expenditure on the labour part would be provided out of the MGNREGA funds.He said by doing so we would be broadening the ambit of this flagship programme so that more people get benefitted from it. "The quarterly review of the implementation of convergence projects under MGNREGA should be done and officers of different department should work in synergized and coordinated manner so that the bottlenecks if any are removed", he added. |
