| Azad cautions people not to fall prey to parties exploiting sentiments | | | Jammu, July 19 : Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad today appealed to the people of the state and other stake holders to maintain peace and harmony and not to play in the hands of political parties keen on taking undue advantage of the volatile situation. Interacting with media persons here, Azad said the situation in Baltal is peaceful and efforts should be made to ignore the hate mongers. He said the minor issue of scuffle between the two individuals should not be projected as tension between the two communities. He said ahead of the Assembly elections political parties in the state are bent upon taking undue advantage and exploit peoples sentiments but onus is on the leadership and the media and general masses to defeat all these forces. He demanded punishment for the guilty irrespective of his native place. Anyone who belongs to Jammu, Kashmir or outside the state having any role in escalating tensions should be brought to book, he added. Commenting on the increasing incidents of ceasefire violations, Azad reminded BJP counterparts to take note and come up to the expectations of the people as they have raised the pitch against UPA during the Lok Sabha campaign over similar incidents of ceasefire violations and infiltration bids from across the border. When asked to share his thoughts on the controversial remakrs made by Arundhati Roy on Mahatma Gandhi, Azad said, anyone raising fingers and insulting Father of the Nation should be taken to task as per the law of the land. |
