JAMMU, Aug 6: In a bid to strengthen its base in Jammu region especially in the winter capital of the state ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) is making all out efforts to reach out to Jammuites.
Sending positive vibes to Jammu people here today, the PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, while addressing the prominent citizens of Jammu during an interaction session, elucidated that Jammu is as significant as Kashmir for the party.
"Jammu is nerve centre of J&K and the problems being faced by the people of this part of the state will be seriously taken care of by the PDP," said Sayeed.
While referring to some of the speakers' suggestions like introduction of cross-border trade between India and Pakistan via Suchetgarh, promotion of border tourism in Suchetgarh on the pattern of Wagah border in Punjab and speeding up construction work of artificial lake in Jammu, the veteran leader said that all the demands and proposals put up here will be taken into consideration by the PDP in its "Vision Document".
"We will make sincere efforts to address the issues of Jammu people… Submissions made by the speakers here for the growth and development of key sectors like tourism will be on PDP's top agenda," said Sayeed.
"The vision document will ensure that better travel, trade and tourism infrastructure is created here so that economy of Jammu doesn't get suffered," he added.
Sayeed further said that democracy is a battle of ideas and in order to strengthen it PDP has fielded Bharat Chowdhary from Jammu East constituency.
"It's now upto the people of Jammu to pin their hopes in a young, dynamic and a promising leader who is sure to bridge the existing gap…. Our team alongwith Bharat Chowdhary will also meet the prominent citizens and try to incorporate their views before finalizing the "Vision Document," Sayeed maintained.
If the statement of Mufti Sayeed oozing with warmth and affection for Jammuites was any indication of PDP's moves to make a strong rapport with the people of the region then giving entry to prominent faces in the party itself is a proof that it wants a bigger space in the plains of Jammu in the days to come.
If sources are to be believed then scion of Dogra dynasty Vikramaditya Singh is joining PDP in presence of its president Mehbooba Mufti onAugust 8 at Reen Palace, Chatha.
"Vikramaditya's entry in PDP is a masterstroke aimed at making deep penetration in Jammu region particularly in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi districts…. The move to induct someone from erstwhile Dogra rulers is definitely going to boost the prospects of the party in Jammu city and its peripheries," said sources.
In the run up to the State Assembly elections, the PDP realizes that without making inroads in the Dogra heartland, the party cannot remove the tag of Kashmir-centric political outfit.
The signals emanating from the PDP clearly suggests that party is painstakingly trying to take Jammuites on board to gain a strong footing in Jammu regain with an eye to regain power in the state.
