Substandard material used in repair works on roads in Pouni, Reasi
8/7/2014 12:16:00 AM

Reasi, Aug 6: The dilapidated and shambled roads in Jammu region is a commonplace phenomenon, but accident occurring due to the broken path leading to the consumption of human lives is a deplorable thing towards which the authorities put up a nelson’s eye.
A recent accident on the Pouni road in Reasi district that caused the death of six people however led to the alarm ringing in administration’s ear which, though swung into action directing the GREF authorities to blacktop the road to avoid further mishaps, but the deed seems to be loaded with heavy corruption that is visible on the road.
As per Early Times finding, the correspondent of which was on the spot watching the resurrection of the road found the material viz sand, bajri and tar of low and thinning quality approached the concerned authority.
“ It is only due to rains that muck and dirty sand got mixed with the material, which otherwise was of finest quality and since I am directed by my higher authorities to go along with the topping work and I am doing so,” said T S Rawat, junior engineer deputed by GREF to take the cognizance of repairing of the road.
It is pertinent to mention here that though the concerned officer expressed his helplessness to change the material on the site and carried on with the repairing work, obviously with the below quality material which would in all respects likely to get damaged again in near future with the monsoons overhead, locals rue that repairing of the road is of no use which would agin lead to the breaking of the road creating more trouble for the commuters.
