| Omar may not contest Assembly polls | | After surrender from Ganderbal, CM reluctant to contest from Sonawar | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 6: After secretly surrendering from ancestral political battle ground of Sheikh dynasty, Ganderbal, office bearers of National Conference (NC) on condition of anonymity informed that Omar Abdullah seeing no chance for himself may not contest upcoming assembly elections. Sources said that keeping in view the body language of Omar Abdullah post rout in recently held parliamentary elections and ground reports received during introspection sessions, it seems that he has decided not to contest assembly elections and in case his name appeared in second list of NC candidates which is expected to be announced today he pull out from the fray. "After through analyses among NC office bearers it was found that compared to all other constituencies across the state including Ganderbal as well, to some extent Sonawar was declared safe place for Omar Abdullah to contest as the Chief Ministerial candidate, on the other hand Omar being aware of the lead to PDP in vote share in Sonawar too during parliamentary elections and present political scenario of the area, Omar is in no mood to contest from Sonawar too," sources said. They said that after secretly surrendering ancestral battleground Ganderbal to Ishfaq Jabar following the major vote shift in Kangan and main Ganderbal too during parliamentary elections and on the bases of ground received reports from grass root workers of Ganderbal about future of NC in the area then within party circles it was assumed that Omar may contest from two constituencies of Srinagar District likely Sonawar and Hazratabal. Sources said that as the process of political campaigning start gaining momentum in Kashmir for assembly elections, Omar Abudullah after seeing shift of vote bank towards PDP and inroads of PDP in Hazratbal constituency too, he only restricted himself to Sonawar but not without of chances of ambiguity about success. Sources said that it will be for the first time in the political History of kashmir and Abdullah dynasty as well that two senior most leaders of NC outside sheikh dynasty may solely took over reigns of NC as the last surviving person of Shiekh dynasty NC additional general secretary and uncle of Omar Abdullah, Dr Mustafa Kamal too is expected to witness defeat from Hazratbal constituency where PDP has over the years succeeded in making strong inroads. Sources said that NC patron Farooq Abdullah who despite his illness and stay in Delhi after defeat in parliamentary elections is not ready to surrender important party reins which include Chief Ministerial post in the hands of people outside sheikh Dynasty and that only is the reason that he kept commandment of announcing mandate to candidates pending so long and did not allowed any NC leader to announce candidates in his absence. |
