| Eid already over but huge chunk of employees yet to receive July salary | | Government interested in lip service than action | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Aug 6: Eid celebrations are already over in the state but a huge chunk of employees are yet to receive the salary for the month of July. This is despite the fact the state government announced that government employees would get the salary for July well in advance. The State Government had announced that the pay day for the employees would be on July 28. This was a day before the Eid-ul-Fitr festival that was celebrated across the state on July 29. Already six days of August are over and the employees belonging to the lower ranks in different departments are yet to get salary. Early Times has learnt that hundreds of employees in different government departments are without the salary. These employees are up against many odds and they faced difficulties more so on the occasion of Eid. The Eid celebrations turned sombre for them and their family members especially children. "We are without the salaries for the past three months and not to talk about the salary for July. Our officers receive the salary well on time but we are left at the mercy of the God. Our salary is meagre and that too is not paid on time. This needs to be looked into by the concerned authorities so that there is some relief," said a group of employees of Rural Development Department. Along with the employees of Rural Development Department casual staff of the Department of Social Welfare is also without the salaries for some months now. They are also up in arms against the concerned higher ups and demand action so that the things get streamlined in the future. "Our honorarium is too meagre that it won't affect the state ex-chequer. But still then our honorarium is not paid regularly and we usually receive it after a gap of three or four months. This problem has been going on for long now and every time we are told that there are not enough funds," said a group of Anganwadi workers and helpers. It would be in place to mention here that financial experts have voiced their concern over the financial quagmire that exists in the state these days. The treasuries are running dry and the employees as well as the contractors are not receiving the payments on time. "Whenever the legislators hike their salary there is no financial constraint and funds are easily available. But when it comes to releasing the salary of low rank employees it is said that sufficient funds are not available. Law should be same for everybody but sadly it is not so and the poor continue to suffer," said the employees who are without the salary. The employees accused the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah of deceiving the employees by claiming that relief has been provided to them. They said the big relief that they can expect is that their 'meagre' salary or honorarium is paid on time without any delay whatsoever. They said that action and not rhetoric is needed from the head of the state. |
