BARAMULLA, Aug 6: In a search operation Jammu and Kashmir Police have recovered the body of a militant at Kreeri Thesil of District Baramulla in North Kashmir on Wednesday, who they believe had snatched the INSAS rifle of a policeman in Pattan few days back. A top Police Official told early times that, on a tip of Baramulla police recovered a body of militant from Surayipora in Thesil Kreeri, the militant had snatched an INSAS Rifle of IRPF personnel in Pattan on August 2. Army's 29 RR, 176 CRFPF and Police launched a cordon in village Surayipora Kreeri,while the cordon was being laid few gunshots were heard from a house of Mohamad Ramzan Mir S/O Ghulam Rasool Mir of Surayipora Kreeri official said. He said "the police party approached the house and recovered the body of Mudasir Ahmad Sofi S/O Late Abdul Gani Sofi R/O Sofi Mohalla Palhalan and also recovered INSAS rifle near the deceased along some used cartridges. "The initial investigations revealed that the rifle belonged to the policeman, who was attacked with an axe in Pattan on August 2 he added. According to sources that Sofi, a resident of Palhallan Pattan, was an over ground worker, there was no detail available about what militant group was he associated with. Meanwhile in another incident an army soldier was killed in a fierce gun battle that raged at Leepa Valley near Line of Control in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Wednesday. According to official sources that a group of 5-6 intruders sneaked in this side at Gagoldari near Eagle Post few 8 days back. "The group of militants was hiding in the area since last week". On a tip of information about the presence of the group of intruders at Gageldari area, army's 3/1 GR, 5/5 GR and 20 RR launched a massive operation to combat with the militants on Tuesday official said. He said that as such the joint team of forces intensified the combing operation in the area, the intruders sophisticated with the machine guns and motor guns opened heavy fire upon the forces. "During the heavy motor shelling, a soldier of 3/1 GR identified as Naik Damodar Thapa injured critically", sources said, adding that the injured was not immediately evacuated due to the intense shelling from the other side due to which the soldier succumbed. It was not immediately known whether the group of infiltrators returned back or they are still hiding in the area, sources said, adding that the joint team of forces along with the extra contingent of forces cordoned off the whole area and launched the hunt to track down the militant group. |
