| SERC reprimands JKSPDC as shortage of trained staff hampering work | | 'Establishment of training schools in major projects delayed' | | Avinash Azad JAMMU, Aug 6: Failed to obey order regarding creation of training centres in all the major projects, the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) has been reprimanded by State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC). According to SERC's directives to JKSPDC for the year 2014-15, the commission has been asked to expedite the creation of training and capacity building centres in all the major power projects. "The Commission in its earlier orders of (2013-14) had already directed the corporation to expedite the creation of training and capacity building centres in all the major power projects", sources said, adding that the SERC took a serious notice of the fact that there has been no positive development in that direction and no proper training centre has been established so far in any of the major stations with capacity of 100 MW or more. They further said that the commission has again directed the JKSPDC to take all necessary steps for setting up such centres for imparting training to the staff in all projects having capacity of 100 MW or more. "Creation of training and capacity building centres is important, as several new projects are coming up in the State and the Corporation would be requiring highly trained and skilled staff to operate and maintain such projects", said JKSPDC's insiders wishing not to be named. He said that shortage of well-trained men in various field was hampering the functioning of the corporation. "To overcome shortage of trained staff at various level, Creation of training and capacity building centres was decided State Advisory Committee Meeting held in Jammu on January 2, 2012", sources maintained. Recently held State Advisory Committee Meeting, participants including seven members and 31 special invitees expressed dismay over non-comply of earlier orders. It was further directed by the commission to the corporation to expedite the process for establishment required infrastructure to train existing man-power engaged in corporation with various capacity. Despite repeated attempt to contact, the Managing Director JKSPDC was not available for comment. |
