| Another doctor relinquishs job to join politics | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 6: To cleanse present political system from the increasing corruption and prevailing mess, another serving doctor relinquishes office to join politics. Dr Anil Kumar Dhar, Assistant Professor, Government Medical College, Jammu in Department of Medicines left the job on July 31 this year despite having 12 years of active service left to join politics. Announcing his decision at a press conference here, today he said that he took premature retirement from Government service despite his well wishers strongly dissuading him from doing so. Born in Jammu in the year 1964, Dr Dhar has done his MBBS and MD from GMC Jammu and DNB medicines from NBE Delhi. In his 24 years service period Dr Dhar mostly served in GMC Jammu. Dr Dhar said during his tenure in GMC he observed that inefficiency of the system is not because of shortage of funds for the infrastructure but more because of unaccountable and indifferent attitude of the administration. ``I sincerely felt that patients could be served better if the administration was responsive, held accountable and system of checks and balances were in place''. If such was the situation in the health Sector same would be true of other sectors of administration, he added. Dr Dhar, while assigning reasons for quitting the job and joining politics said that with his official position, it was not possible for him to improve the situation even in the Health Sector much less to speak of the other sectors of the Government because of the constraints of the official position held by him. ``So I took a harsh decision to quit my job to serve people and make a sincere endeavor to improve the system from outside'', he added. He said this was not an emotional decision but a well thought of step as ``I firmly believe that if you want you can do it''. Dr Dhar said nothing can be corrected and improved unless functionaries of the Government are made aware of their actual role and responsibilities. `` The awareness I want to generate with my background, by being representative of the voice of the people, representative of their day to day issues and felt needs representative of their long list of petitions. He said ``I would seek the mandate of the people to become member of the legislative Assembly of the State and try to contribute towards improvement of public services at a rapid pace'', . Dr Dhar, who intends to contest from Jammu West Constituency said he would strive hard to solve the problems of ``Bijli'', ``Sadak'' and ``Pani'' being faced by the people. |
