Two arrested with 208 Kg Nagchatri
Smuggling of forest produce on rise

Kishtwar, Aug 6: After Doda police exerted pressure on forest smugglers and recovered over 20 quintals of Nagchatri and other forest produce, arresting several persons in last few months; the forest smugglers are exploring other options for safe transportation of smuggled material from one place to another place and two forest smugglers were today arrested by team of Forest Protection Team in Kishtwar District when they were in process of transportation of the same to Kashmir valley.
As per details, a team of Forest Protection Team under the Supervision of Deputy Dirtector Khalid Amin Mehta during wee hours of today arrested two persons and recovered 208 Kg forest produce Nagchatri from their possession concealed inside specially designed truck from Bindraband Bhanderkot some 7 KM from District Headquarter Kishtwar.
While talking to " Early Times", Deputy Director Forest Protection Force (FPF) Kishtwar said that on the basis of specific input about illegal transportation of forest produce Nagchatri via Kishtwar-Sinthan- Srinagar National Highway, FPF team laid a Nakka near Bindraband and intercepted Truck bearing registration No. JK02AD-1961 (TATA 407) and during the search of the said vehicle that apparently looked empty. The FPF team removed the tin sheets of the vehicle and found specially designed boxes under the tin sheets containing some forest produce in specially packed bags. He said that after breaking the seal of these bags, the forest produce packed inside these bags were found to be Nagchatri. He said that after the recovery of such huge quantity of Nagchatri, FPF team arrested driver and his accomplice on spot.
He said that on the basis of recovery of such huge quantity of Nagchatri, FPF registered case under different forest acts against two persons namely Mohammed Younas son of Asadullah Butt resident of Thalela Tehsil Thatri district Doda and Firdous Ahmed son of Abdul Rashid Jeral resident of Mangota Marmat Doda while the 3rd person, main accused identified as Ghulam Hussain resident of Beoli Doda is absconding. During the preliminary investigation, the arrested persons informed the FPF team that they were going to deliver the seized consignment at Viloo in Anantnag District of Kashmir Division. Later FPF team produced both the accused in court and seek their custody for further investigation, beside handing over the recovered material to Kishtwar Forest Department. The FPF team with the help of police has also launched a hunt to arrest the absconding person. The seized truck has reached Kishtwar from Doda after crossing several police check posts.
