| Agitated locals lock Dir Local Bodies, protest over undue 'favoritism' | | | Early Times Report
Katra, Aug 6: In protest against the office premises given to Labour Union by Katra Municipal Committee (KMC), hundreds of local residents led by Senior Congress leader and MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma today staged a strong protest demonstration and locked the Director Local Bodies and other officials for more than one hour. Led by Senior Congress leader and MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma protestors assembled at the office of KMC and amid sloganeering against the authority they alleged that the occupation given to the Labour Union is totally illegal and should be vacated on the immediate effect. Angered over the officials of KMC, protestors locked the office in which Director Local Bodies KL Khajuria and other officials were present at that time. Criticizing KMC for its undue favor to Labour Union by providing it a portion of its office to set up Union's office, protestors alleged that municipal committee is working against the people. They alleged that Labour Union is harassing the common people in connivance with KMC officials and demanded to the authority concern to get it vacated immediately. However intervening into the matter, Director Local Bodies KL Khajuria to pacify the agitators and admitted that the procession given to Labour Union is completely illegal and assured them that the same will be vacated within week time. Later Director Local Bodies also announced Rs 25 lakhs of funds for the repair and improvement of lanes and drains on the occasion. On getting assurance from the Director Local Bodies, agitators called off the protest demonstration. |
