Jammu, Aug 6: Seeking support of every section of the society to establish a new system of justice and equality in Jammu and Kashmir, patron of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said the forthcoming Assembly elections would be an historic opportunity to change destiny of the people of this State. "If 2002 elections were turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir to restore peoples' faith in the democratic institutions, the coming assembly polls are historic in the sense that it would be an opportunity to change fate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir", Mufti said while interacting with prominent citizens of Jammu city this evening. The interaction was organised by prominent social activist Deepak Handa, who joined PDP along with large number of supporters today. Prominent citizens of Jammu city participated in the interaction. Observing that the just concluded Parliament elections have already set a trend for the coming assembly elections in the State, he said, "The way people of J&K have totally rejected ruling coalition in the Parliamentary polls is a clear indication that change is imminent in the State". "Let us work together to take the campaign for change to its logical conclusion", Mufti said. Reminding the people about the steps which were taken by PDP led government in the State to ensure equitable development in the State, he said that his party was committed to accommodate wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions for the State while formulating policies and programmes. Elaborating PDP's agenda for economic empowerment of the people, he said, "Jammu and Kashmir has huge natural resource in the form of water and it is on the top of party's agenda to utilize this natural resource for the socio-economic growth of the people of Jammu and Kashmir". Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Hoonda said that he has decided to join the party due to progressive programmes and policies of this party. He assured PDP leadership that he would work assiduously to spread agenda of the party in every nook and corner of the state. Sardar Rangil Singh, Yash Pal Sharma, Trilok Singh Bajwa, Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin, Shanti Devi, Jagjeet Singh Jagga, Hussain Ali Wafa, Rashid Malik, Dr Kamal Saini, Hamid Choudhary, Amrik Singh Reen, Bharat Choudhary, Dr Harmesh Slathia, R K Bali, Madan Lal Chalotra were among others present on the occasion. |
