A Pak lie has no legs to stand upon | | | A letter written to the UN Chief, Ban-ki-Moon, by the advisor to the Pakistan Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, is a bundle of lies. In fact the contents of the letter are aimed at seeking international intervention for resolving the Kashmir issue. During the last three months Pakistani troops, on one h and, have resorted to repeated ceasefire violations on the LOC and on the IB in Jammu and Kashmir and on the other hand Islamabad has been pleading for the resumption of bilateral dialogue. Pakistani troops have been engaged in targeting civilian houses and Indian border outposts and pickets with gun and mortar fire on the other hand it has missed no opportunity for raking up the Kashmir issue in the international fora including the UN General Assembly. During all these months Islamabad has been holding India responsible for ceasefire violations when in reality it was Pakistani troops who fired the first shot. True top its political stand Pakistan has stepped up its attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue which is evident from the tone and tenor of the, letter to the UN chief on the security situation along the LoC and the International Border with India and sought the world body's intervention in resolving the issue. In a letter to UN chief Ban ki-moon, Adviser to the Pakistan Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz accused India of "deliberate and unprovoked violations of the ceasefire agreement and cross-border firing" over the past weeks. For several days the Indian troops observed restraint even when the Pakistani troops targeted the Indian border outposts and pickets. The Indian side opted for flag meetings and when Pakistani forces violated all the commitments they had made during the flag meetings the Indian troops and the BSF were asked to retaliate with force and fury. And when the going became tough for Pakistani forces Islamabad started seeking UN intervention in not only ending the ceasefire violations but also in resolving the Kashmir issue. And despite knowing well that India had derecognized the UN Military Observers Group Pakistani approached the UNMOG officials and complained about ceasefire violations being committed by the Indian forces. A lie upon lie may not hold any water. Approaching the UNMOG officials was another attempt by Pakistan to internationalise the Kashmir issue. And if there is any doubt about this game plan one should read the contents of Aziz's letter to the UN chief. Aziz writes "As you are aware, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is one of the long outstanding issues on the agenda of the UN Security Council, whose resolutions promising the holding of a plebiscite, under the auspices of the United Nations, for self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, remain valid though unimplemented to date," Well neither the UN nor Washington is ignorant of prolonged Pakistan's proxy war against India. It is because of it that Washington has been telling Islamabad to resolve the Kashmir issue bilaterally through the process of dialogue. Has Islamabad ever desired to brief the UN or Washington about its continued plan on keeping the arms training camps functional for providing arms training to militants. If the IB reports are to be relied on over 1600 militants were being given arms training in scores of camps set up inPakistan occupied Kashmir. It is quite clear that after training Pakistan would not like to retain them but push them into Jammu and Kashmir. And for doing this the Pak troops have to carve out a safe passage which they think can be done by opening fire on the Indian border outposts and Indian villages so that amid confusion militants could cross into Jammu and Kashmir for hiking the level of violence which was needed for wrecking the ensuing Assembly election. It is hoped that the UN chief takes cognizance of the subversive plan being framed and executed by the Pakistani troops. |
