ALC proceeds against GREF officials for violating labour norms | | | Asif Iqbal Naik KISHTWAR, Oct 13: Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Kishtwar Zakir Hussain Wani today initiated proceedings against General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) officials for allegedly violating labour laws while working on a road construction project in the district. As per the details available with "Early Times", ALC on 10-10-2014 conducted a surprise inspection of road stretch from Galhar Bridge to Sashu on Kishtwar-Paddar-Himachal road where 118 RCC GREF, Kishtwar, was engaged by the Government for upgradation of two-lane road to four-lanes and found that all the employees of GREF working without safety equipments. During the course of the inspection, ALC Kishtwar asked the employees to show the registration certificate under Building and other Construction Works Welfare Act but they fail to produce the same. On the bases of his inspection, ALC Kishtwar submitted the on spot memo to Officiating Commandant of 118 RCC GREF Kishtwar through Junior Engineer Gaurav Mehta and fixed the hearing for today. During the course of the hearing, ALC Kishtwar initiated prosecution against the GREF Officials after they failed to submit a written reply to the memo submitted to GREF. When contacted, ALC Kishtwar said that the central agency has thrown all the norms to wind, adding that GREF neither provided them any safety equipments like halmet, masks, shoes, hand gloves and other equipments like scraper and in some cases even had not insured the labourers working at the site. He termed it as a gross violation of labour laws. He said that his office from last several weeks has received information about violation of labour and other laws by the GREF authorities and added that after his on-spot inspection, the complaints were found genuine. "Nobody is above law. Weather it is GREF or any other agency--- law is equal for all, the GREF authorities have violated the law and whatever action against such violation is warranted under law, the department will take," said ALC. |
