MENDHAR, Oct 13: Pakistan today resorted to heavy shelling and gunfire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, targeting over 12 army posts and villages as a result of which two army jawans and a woman were wounded.
The Pak troops first targeted Sabzian sub-sector at about 3.30 pm from their Kobra Top post. The alert Indian jawans, who were expecting such a mischief from Pakistan, retaliated effectively, official sources said.
They fired shells and put into use high calibre weapons, targeting Indian posts of 4812 KP Nullah, Kobra-II, Gagrian, Uripura, Shool and Dhanna and villages, including Gali (Pindi). A Pak shell exploded in the house of Abdul Shakoor at Shool, resulting in serious splinter injuries to his wife Praveen Akhtar who was admitted to district hospital, Poonch.
Two jawans were also wounded at Sabzian and hospitalised, the sources added, saying the exchange of shells and fire between the two sides stopped in Sabzian sub-sector at about 7 pm.
In Shahpur area, the Pak shelling and firing started at 6.30 pm and ended at about 7.15 pm. The firing was done by the Pak troops on four to five posts there, the sources added.
In Balakote sub-sector, the shelling and firing began at about 9 pm and was continuing at the time of going to the print. The firing there was done by the Pak's 651 Mujahid Regiment on the Indian posts of M S Tekri, Kunikar Bunker, Panini Nullah and some more posts, sources said.
Details were awaited.
There was, however, no ceasefire violation by Pakistan along International Border (IB) in Jammu frontier, sources said.
"Though there has been no firing by Pakistani troops since yesterday morning, an uneasy calm prevailed along the 192-km long IB in Jammu region," the sources added
"There has been no firing from Pakistan overnight. The borders are calm," Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Rajesh Kumar said.
He said there was no firing or mortar shelling since 8 am yesterday along the International Border.
The IB witnessed heavy firing by Pakistani troops this month which left eight persons dead and over 90 injured, including 13 security men.
