JAMMU, Oct 13: The local passport office has been a source of psychological torture for the people who go there to seek travel documents. A student selected for MBBS in Bangladesh is about to lose her admission as the passport authorities are not issuing the vital document for the past four months.
Bisma Bhat daughter of Ghulam Mohi-u-Din Bhat who got selected for MBBS in Kumudini Women Medical College Mirzapur Tangail in Bangladesh has not been issued her passport. After being selected, Bisma applied for a passport in Srinagar Passport office on June 6, 2014 under file number SG106785386714 which was requisite for getting visa as she had to submit the same at Bangladesh Embassy at New Delhi for the further clearances.
She alleged that despite lapse of four months the passport had not been issued to her.
"After filing Passport application at Srinagar Office on June, 6, 2014, my police verification was done on August 9, 2014 (2946/6-A-2014/SDR) and soon the report was sent to CID Headquarter Srinagar by police department," she said while narrating her ordeal.
Later, CID cleared its verification on August 21, 2014 and the report was sent to Passport Office vide Challan Number 227 dated 28/714 S.No. 34, she said.
"After getting information from CID we visited Passport office Srinagar to enquire about the status of my passport in September, the officials said that due to flash floods the computer system in office has become dysfunctional and all records have been sent to Jammu Passport Office and directed to visit Jammu office," she said.
"When we visited Jammu Passport Office on October 11, 2014, the concerned officer Assistant Passport Officer Ajaz, said that the CID verification had not been received. I have to submit my Passport at Bangladesh Embassy before October 20 for getting visa and securing my MBBS seat but delay caused by the authorities may deprive me of my admission," she said.
Despite repeated attempts to contact by telephonically, Assistant Passport officer didn't pick up phone.
