Kathua, Oct 13: J&K Kissan Tehreek (JKKT) warned to launch a series of agitations, If the governments failed to settle the claims and redressal of demands of the farmers of the state it is stated by farmers during a protest demonstration at Kathua on Monday. Under the banner of "J&K Kissan Tehreek", took out a protest march and staged a protest demonstration in front of the DC Office in Kathua Mini Secretariat on Monday. They were demanding the early settling of compensation of farmers who had lost their crops by heavy rains, an adequate insurance scheme for their crops, and supply of seeds and fertilizers in time and releasing the water from Ravi by Panjab Government for irrigation purpose. Provincial president of the Kissan Tehreek, Banarsi Dass alleged the paddy seed of 1121 distributed among the farmers by Agriculture Department is of 'low quality and of low yield' putting farmers at losers' end. "The loss should also be covered by the state government because of this adulterated paddy seeds, he underlined. He also raised the demand for the crop protection from wild animals like monkey major portion of the crops is damaged by monkeys and any other wild animals. He also said crops across the district have been destroyed due to incessant rains and floods and farmers yet are looking towards authorities for adequate compensation. |
