Floods disconnect people in Baramulla
10/13/2014 11:39:15 PM
Syed Tahir Bukhari

BARAMULLA, Oct 13: Recent floods of September left behind devastation all around and these floods have not only changed the demography of an area but created difficulties for the common masses of Wagoora Tehsil of Sangrama constituency in District Baramulla.
Mushtaq Ahmad of Wagoora said, "As the water started touching ground floor of our houses there was total chaos and confusion, nothing but death was in front of us because water was gradually engulfing the whole area as almost fifty houses were living close to the banks of Nallah Ningli." Nazir Ahmad of Darwa told Early Times that people use other roads via Mungam to reach their respective places as recent floods have disconnected them from Waoggra Tehsil.
The farmers in the area said that the agriculture and horticulture has been badly hit by the floods. The flood has washed away everything that came in its way like Apple, Poplar trees and standing crops from Kachew Muqam to Shrakwara. The flood in Nallah Ningli has damaged some major bridges which connected many far flung areas with Tehsil and district headquarters of the valley. These damaged bridges include Kachew Muqam-Kalantara, Wizer Shrakwara Bridge on Wagoora-Baramulla road, Wagoora Bridge near main market, Waglia Bridge on Kalantara-Wagoora road, and many other culverts were also damaged. On September 6 when flood fury wreaked havoc in Jammu and Kashmir, the residents of Wagoora Tehsil and its adjoining areas also suffered huge losses, however no loss to human life was reported from the area. The Wagoora Market used to remain abuzz with shoppers all over the day, floods left people in a deep thought that Nallah Ningli in Wagoora took back its own land during these floods which they had grabbed illegally by creating temporary structures and some where permanent houses on the banks of Nallah Ningli, but this time shops wear a deserted look.
However employees of various government departments like office of the Thesildar, police post,
Jammu and Kashmir bank, Agriculture and Horticulture, Block Development, BSNL, and Zonal Education Office and other private institutions, faces hardship to reach in time due to non availability of transport and damage in bridges and roads at various places.
Sijad Ahmad Bhat an employee at Wagila says that I am leaving my home at 7:30 in the morning so that I could reach in time, but all bridges from Wagoora to Kandi belt are damaged and R&B department should repair them immediately as it seems government is not paying attention towards this area".
