Jammu, Oct 13 : Notwithstanding massive devastation caused by recent floods across the valley, the rural Kashmir has expressed readiness for polls like their counterparts in Jammu and Ladakh. The political parties in both these regions have already started their campaign directly or indirectly. Even the Kashmir based parties also meet people and hold rallies in Jammu.
Barring NC all other parties expressed readiness to go to polls on time during the Deputy Election Commissioner's recent visit. The people in ladakh also want timely election. Talking to Early Times, former legislator, Ghulam Raza said that the people in Kargil and Leh want elections in time. "The final call on holding elections has to be taken by election commission of India. Kashmir has gone through a very bad phase and the floods have damaged most of the Srinagar. As far as ladakh region is concerned, the people are in favour of timely elections because after20 November, it is very difficult rather impossible to conduct election in ladakh. So that way also, it is feasible to hold elections in time," he said.
Another MLA of Jammu region, said that Jammu also faced brunt of nature's fury but now situation is quite normal and hope that the election will be held in time. He further said that this state is unique in many ways and the majority of people are in favour of early elections.
Zahoor Ahmed, a political worker from south Kashmir said, the most affected area was Srinagar and its adjoining areas, other areas were also affected by floods, but still people in south Kashmir want to get rid of this government which failed miserably in recent floods.
"The people as well as the political parties want election in time except national conference, but whether it will be held, only election commission can decide. The people in Jammu, ladakh and rural Kashmir by and large want elections on time, but final call will be taken by election commission of India," he said.
