Army Jawan killed in Handwara encounter, mop up operation on | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
KUPWARA, Oct 13: In an encounter between suspected militants and security forces in Handwara area of Kupwara district in north Kashmir, an army jawan was killed Monday morning. According to a senior police official, "Militants started firing at the patrolling party of Army's 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) triggering an encounter in which an army man got killed and another was seriously injured". He added that forces had launched a search operation in the forests near the village following information about presence of militants there. "The militants fired upon forces resulting in serious injuries to an army man who immediately succumbed to his injuries at Petha village of Handwara area of Kupwara district. "The militants on being challenged opened heavy fire upon the forces which was retaliated ensuing a fierce gun-battle, during the gunfight one army personal was injured, r who later succumbed on the way to hospital, official said. Reliable sources said that this was the fourth fatality suffered by Army in Kupwara district in the past two months. Senior official sources in Kupwara said that, it is believed 6-7 militants may have sneaked into this side of line of control (LOC) near Zachaldara sector on the intervening night of October 9 and 10.However a massive search operation is still going on in the forest of Handwara and Zachaldara area, it is believed that militant group have infiltrated to this side of Line of Control (LOC) in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, official maintained. |
