Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 4: A march was organized by several organizations of Jammu and Kashmir on "Privatization and communalization of Education", on the nationwide call given All India Forum for Right to Education (AIFRTE). The participants in the rally were demanding fully state funded common education system from KG to PG.
The march called "All India Shiksha Sangarsh Muheem(Jammu-Kashmir)" started from Main Park, RS Pura to Satwari, on vehicles and thereafter marchers walked up to main-park Gol-market Gandhi Nagar.
At RS Pura, the march was flagged off by Prof. Jagmohan singh (nephew of Shaheed Bhagat Singh) and Prof. Madhu Prasad (Member presidium AIFRTE).
The participants were carrying placards and banners highlighting the slogans against privatization and communalization of education like "Mantri ho ya Chaprasi Ki Santan-Sabko Shiksha Ek Saman", "Stop Communalizing Education", "Stop the FDI in Education" etc.
Expressing concern over increasing privatization of education, nephew of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Prof. Jagmohan Singh said that the privatization of education was a policy of state (governments), since centuries, that public at large, must be kept away from education, so that they would never able to understand the reality of system, which is exploitative.
Recalling words of Guru Govind Singh ji, he further said that once Guru Govind Singh Ji had thought to impart education among Sikhs so that they would be able to fight the kings at that time.
"When Govind Singh ji went to Brahmins, they simple replied to Guruji that Sanskirt is only for a special class", he recalled, adding that at present times, the real fight was between labour and capital.
Elaborating further, he said that the system was making money from the compulsion of masses and education has become compulsion and corporate class, in collaboration with government has made education a profit industry.
"With privatization of education, on one hand government has been effortlessly attempting to keep aside majority masses besides the contemporary education system has been curbing the critical thinking of masses in lieu of hefty fee", he said.
Senior advocate Jameel Kazmi also stressed on the forms in which neo-liberalism has been penetrated in our lives and there should be new form of resistance for the struggle against it.
