`Modi wave' not enough to prevent BJP defeat in Rajouri | | | Avinash Azad
Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 4: Elated with land slide victory in Parliament and recently held Assembly elections in two states Maharashtra and Haryana, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) eyeing on mission 44 plus in J&K, is likely to face humiliating defeat in border at least in Rajouri district where party has fielded its candidates ignoring past's experiences. Like other constituencies in Jammu region where party has introduced new faces, the rebels have formed new fronts to contest poll against BJP candidates. In Rajouri constituency where party has announced new entrant, Talib Hussain, defeated independent candidate in 2008 Assembly elections. Dismayed over denial of party's mandate to him from Rajouri, Yogesh Sharma said that party would face humiliating defeat in district Rajouri. "Some vested interest leaders who had unsuccessfully contested previous Assembly election have mislead party high command about ground realities", he said, adding that he would independently contest the elections from Rajouri. "I'm not sure about my victory, I'll contest, ignoring senior leaders mandates distributed", former BJP leader said, alleging that BJP leader Vibodh Gupta and Bharat Bhushan who un-successfully contested previous Assembly elections from Rajouri and Kalakot constituencies respectively have played dirty politics against me", he said and added that they were people beyond denial of party ticket in his favour. However, Congress winner of 2008 Assembly election secured 10013 votes, PDP was on second position with 9680, independent candidate Talib Hussain secured 8763 votes, BJP on fourth position with 8712 votes and NC secured 7706. "Unfortunately, party gave its mandate a person who was on third position at that time. The decision has also made un-happy party's voters", he said. Ridiculing party's faith in Abdul Ghani Kohli for Kalakot constituency, said a BJP leader from Kalakot seeking anonymity said that Kohli had faced humiliated defeat from Kalakot constituency on the mandate of Congress party in last Assembly elections. "Kohli who get 1017 votes on Congress mandate and secured sixth position at that time, latter joined PDP and now jumped into BJP camp. Surprisingly he also managed to get party's mandate", he regretted and added that the people who have sympathy for party are not happy with its decision, as the mandate was given to outsider ignoring party leaders from Kalakot. "NC has been winning from Kalakot since 2002, but BJP has fielded a person whose performance was worst in 2008 on Congress Party's mandate. NC the winner of 2008 Assembly election secured 25314 votes, Independent candidate Ashok Sharma 13894, PDP 7742, BSP 3851, BJP 1423 and Abdul Ghani Kohli got 1017 votes. The ruling National Conference secured 16511 votes, Congress 12691, BSP 12186, BJP 11701 and JKNPP got 3109 votes. There was resentment in party leaders over candidature a party ignoring Vishwinder Dev and other leaders, given opportunity to Ravinder Raina. In Rajouri and Nowshera constituencies the party has paved way for PDP, NC and Congress have their strong hold at Kalakot constituency. |
