Militants hurl 2 grenades on CRPF camp | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari

SOPORE, Nov 4: Panic gripped locals here when militants hurled two grenades on a CRPF camp in Sopore town in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Tuesday morning. According to reports, at around 11:20 am, panic gripped the area after the granades were thrown on a CRPF banker of 179 Bn in Iqbal market of Sopore town. A senior police officer said that, "the grenade was hurled towards the CRPF banker of 179 Battalion, in Iqbal market of Sopore town on Tuesday morning, which missed the target and also failed to explode. Militants fired two UBGL (Under Barrel Grenade Launcher) grenades at a CRPF bunker outside the State Bank of India building in Sopore area on Tuesday morning, he said. Suspected militants hurled grenades at a government forces' picket in North Kashmir's Sopore town but one of them didn't explode, an official said here on Tuesday, adding that one grenade exploded without causing any damage while the other did not explode and was later diffused. He said that the militants had come from an orchard behind the market. Eyewitness witnesses told Early Times over the phone that people ran for cover after the explosive was hurled. Sources said though no one was hurt in the incident, minor damage was caused to some buildings and their window panes in the locality. Following the explosion Sopore police and Special Operation Group (SOG) team rushed to site. Soon after the incident, forces, including police counter insurgency Special Operation Group and units of Indian army, cordoned off the area and conducted searches. |
