JU's Isher left several questions unanswered

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 4: Ex-Vice Chancellor of Jammu University (JU) Prof. Mohan Pal Singh Isher who resigned and left the University months before his tenure would have come to end has left behind a trail of unsavoury incidents and several questions unanswered.
Isher, who was a Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar, joined Jammu University in January 2012. He joined at a time when student organisations especially ABVP had been aggressively campaigning for local vice-chancellor. Within days of taking over the chair of VC of Jammu University, Singh tried to put his seal on the offices across the University.
He elevated several; otherwise unknown faces to various offices in the University. Records of the University bear testimony to the fact that those elevated used the offices to further their aims and ambitions in one way or the other. They did all they could do to reap maximum benefits from the office of Vice-Chancellor and in the process cared a little about the impact their actions had on the credibility of Isher.
Despite holding Science Congress as well as 14th convocation of the University alongwith so many other national and international level events, Isher was forced to quit under unsavoury circumstances. A strong lobby of B.Ed college owners wanted him out since they were annoyed with his style of functioning. They found him discourteous and a major hindrance in the implementation of their plans and programmes
Early Times has credible inputs that these college owners wanted the man to be replaced with someone more open, liberal and dynamic. They too had, according to reliable sources pleaded for his early removal. Influential lobbies of various aspirants in the university were also working over-time to see back of Isher so that they could make all possible efforts to bring in their man as VC of Jammu University (JU).
Ironically, those who manned the office of VC were also seen hobnobbing with their friends and relatives to somehow ensure Isher's return to GNDU. They wanted their close relatives and friends to be elevated to the highest office of Jammu University. Sources do accept that Isher knew little about who his friends were and went purely by the advice of people close to him officially. They ensured that their interests are taken care of, said an official.
On the last day, sources said that Isher had to face an unruly crowd of student leaders who used abusive language inside the office of VC and then, shared the recordings on whatsapp and facebook. They added that an emotional VC, who expected the state government to extend his tenure and who wanted to remain connected with his land for three more years, preferred to ignore this last minutes non-sense and left University quietly for Amritsar.
Isher was nearing superannuation in GNDU and hence, he wanted an assurance from Governor N.N.Vohra's office that they would extend his tenure for three more years after his tenure would have ended in January 2015. He received no proper response from the office and instead, had to bear the illogical and uncalled for response of Principal Secretary to the Raj Bhawan Rakesh Gupta, who had reportedly made up his mind to penalise Isher for having left the University without giving one month mandatory notice.
Isher left the University and ex-BOPEE Chairman Prof. R.D.Sharma took over. It is now to be seen whether he would be able to correct the wrongs that have taken place during the tenure of Singh.
