Early Times Report

Rajouri, Nov 4 : Not to speak about free ration to flash flood victims, Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CA&PD) department has even failed to provide routine ration in Rajouri city and its adjoining areas.
The only answer with the CA&PD officials is that the department is not getting regular supply and that has created a big problem for them to make the ration available at every place in time.
After September floods damaged many houses fully and partially and washed away agricultural land at many places, State Government had announced to provide free ration for the victims for 6 months.
But at many places in Budhal, Kotranka, Sunderbani, Nowshera, Thanamndi, Manjakot etc tehsils the beneficiaries have been holding protests not only for free ration but for supply under APL/BPL categories .At Kotranka, Sunderbani, Dharamshal , Manjakot etc people have been holding protest against the district administration alleging official concerned are in deep slumber despite their several representations and poor people are forced to purchase ration in the open market at higher prices. Several deputations are also coming to Rajouri to apprise the Deputy Commissioner about their problems who assured them to look into/ discuss the matter with the concerned authorities why the free / APL ration not reaching to the people.
In one such protest which was held at Dharmashal on Monday, the inhabitants of Panar, Dharmashal have alleged that the department has not provided ration for the last two months and even the flood victims have been purchasing rice, atta , sugar from open market at higher prices..
Mohd Hussain , Muneer, Pooran and others said that no ration was made available by the CA&PD at fair price shops for the last more than two months.
M.Ashraf, tehsil supply officer said that due to shortage of ration at higher level the routine as well as free ration couldn't be supplied to the depot holders in Dharmashal and few other areas around Dharamshal. As soon as the ration will be available these people will be provided ration at priority basis, said TSO.
