India, Pakistan businessmen worried as border trade suspended | | | Agencies
ATTARI, Nov 4: India-Pakistan border trade was suspended following Sunday's blast at Wagah and it's going to stay that way for the next couple of days. But traders on both sides of the fence said they'd like to see normalcy restored quickly. Pakistan, the business community hoped, would be able to curb militant groups trying to vitiate the atmosphere and disrupt peace along the border. Such incidents won't affect trade, BK Bajaj, Indo-Foreign Chamber of Commerce president, said. "Incidents like these keep happening in Pakistan. Still trade goes on," Bajaj said, acknowledging that blasts and acts of sabotage disturb trade sentiments. "Businessmen on both sides tend to get apprehensive. But they that doesn't mean they stop transacting business." Trade, he explained, was largely in Pakistan's favour. "They need to trade with India more than India needs to." "We've urged traders to keep their morale high and not to let negative sentiments take over. The attempt should be to increase the volume of trade with Pakistan," Indo-Pak Exporters' Association president Rajdeep Uppal said. |
