Ashura processions taken out across State | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 4 : Amid tight security arrangements, processions Ashura processions were taken out across the State on Tuesday,in which thousands of people participated. The rich legacy of Shabiye Zuljinah is ritualistic manner on the eve of Ashura. Keeping with the past tradition, a Shabiye Zuljina was brought out from the residence of Late Haji Rustam Ali Khan and a procession of Ashura was taken out from Peer Meetha Sofi Shah. Thousands of mourners wearing black dresses joined the procession and paid tribute to Imam Hussain (a.s) and his 72 companions the martyrs of Karbala. The procession of Ashura passed through its traditional route via Lakhdatta Bazar, Kanak Mandi, and Residency Road and culminated at Karbala Complex. People from all the religious faiths joined the procession and by installing different stalls of water exhibited that they are with truth because the battle of Karbala was between truth and falsehood. Syed Amanat Ali Shah president Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu while addressing the media said that it was a sixty years old tradition and they were sincerely doing their duty for the Shia community by organizing Muharram proceedings alongwith other Anjumans like Anjuman-e-Haidery New plot, Anjuman-e-Hussaini Bathindi and All Ladakh Muslim Students Association (ALMSAJ). Despite the cold on Tuesday Youm-e-Ashura was also observed with solemnity and religious fervor, in volatile areas of twin district of north Kashmir, rich tributes were paid to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions for their supreme sacrifices.Every year, the day is observed to commemorate the supreme sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his 72 companions at Karbala to uphold the truth. Despite the cold, from early morning of Ashura, thousands of men and women were seen in the Imam Bardas,(place of worship) beating their chest to remember the sacrifices which were laid down by Hassuian in Karbala to uphold the truth. Several Ashura processions were carried out from twin districts of north Kashmir. In Baramulla district including Uri, Delina, Saidpora Sopore, Budgam, Authoora, Watergam, Mirgound, Hanjiwera, Khour ,where main Zuljinah procession was carried out. Mourners, holding black flags and wearing black dresses paid tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions for their supreme sacrifices. Clerics and religious scholars also threw light over the historical, social and religious aspects of the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS). A local Shia from Delina Mohammad Abbas told Early Times that, "The day signifies victory of good over evil. During the battle of Karbala, good prevailed over evil. We take out processions to remember the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussian. He said they were now used to holding processions in the interiors as the government had disallowed the main Muharram processions after the eruption of militancy in the state. Reports came to Early Times that Zuljinnah processions was also taken out at several places in Nowgam Sumbal, Signipora, and Goonchipora in Bandipora district. In Bandipora a large number of people visited graveyards during Youm-e-Ashura to pray for departed souls of their loved ones. Religious heads threw light on the significance of the day. Mourners were also seen flagellating themselves during the processions. |
