Jammu, Dec 6: The Jammu University SC/ST Employees Association organised a function here today wherein the Association members paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar on his 58th death anniversary. Speaking on the occasion, the Association President R.L. Kaith said Ambedkar gave an inspiring self-confidence to Dalit. He was in the favour of education and equal rights for everyone. He has been regarded as a ray of hope for downtrodden in India. His vision of democracy and equality was closely related to good society, rationality and the scientific outlook. He held that the emancipation of Dalit in India was possible only through the three-pronged approach of education, agitation and organization, said Kaith adding that Ambedkarism is the great relevance to Indian society to achieve social justice in establishing equality and true democracy, Others who spoke on Ambedkar were Special Invitee from Civil Secretariat Rajesh Bhagat, Surinder Kumar Shavotra, Surjeet Singh Heer, Des Raj Nandan, Kuldeep Raj, Paras Ram, Sukhdev Bhagat and Vinay Attri. Besides, the Association members elaborated the problems being faced by the SC/ST staff. Association members said that it is quite apparent from the seniority lists of Library Professional Assistants issued by the administration, the quota reserved for the SCs & STs in promotions, have not, till date, been filled up which is a sheer violation of reservation rules and the law declared by the Apex Court in this regard. This discrimination and harassment is horrible when someone from ST/ST community progresses to the senior position at an early age by way of reservation, added they. Members stated that their series of representations submitted to the JU authorities in the thirteen years, have remained unheard. They also said that since 2008, the University Grants Commission has, several times, given instructions to the University authorities to provide membership to SCs & STs in the competent bodies like University Council, Syndicate, Academic Council, Establishment Committee, etc. but no step has ever been taken by them to comply with the instructions. |
