BJP unlikely to win a seat in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 6: The BJP is unlikely to win a seat in the Kashmir atleast in the first two phases where elections have been held. It has forced the party to do rethinking on its poll strategy and start focusing on the Jammu division. The cue in changed policy of the BJP was given by the Prime Minister himself when he condemned the terrorist attack during an election rally in Jharkhand. PM said it was an attack on democracy. PM Narendra Modi didn't make any mention of the terrorist attack at Arnia, when he addressed an election rally in Udhampur. At that time the encounter was still going on. The poll strategy of the BJP till now was to keep silent on any contentious issues and also emotional issues of Kashmir. Pakistan, Art 370 and separatism have takers in the valley and that's the reason BJP decided to keep mum on them and talk on development in an attempt o divert the political narrative of the Kashmir. According to sources, the internal assessment of the party has shown that it is not close to winning line in any of the seats in the Kashmir which have gone to the polls, where by all indications the PDP is leading. The PDP is the main challenge and major political opponent of the party in achieving its mission 44 plus. The sources said the PDP is making inroad in Jammu division fast and is ahead in Rajouri and Poonch districts. It has made the BJP to do rethinking as even in the plains of the Jammu region the Congress is making come back and is exposing the BJP for its soft separatism and soft approach on terrorism. "Cong has come back in a big way and is attacking us. In Hindu majority areas which are our traditional vote bank, this is going to cost us heavily. So we requested the party to change its strategy," said a senior BJP leader, wishing not to be named. |
